The 2nd Annual Managing Director's English Contest took the stage in Mine Town Hall on September 7th for the final and formal presentation portion of the 2017 contest.

More than 200 employees and senior management gathered to praise the efforts and the competitive spirit of the 10 finalists for the contest.

6 judges were assembled with top secret questions to ask the panel of finalists. The question and answer period of the contest was very entertaining. Especially when the question arose about winning a million dollars and what would the finalists do with their money. The contest was intense and very close between many of the participants for 1st place.

This was the second portion of the overall contest. The first portion was an essay application, and the top 10 finalists were chosen by a different panel of judges that the speaking portion. Marks and scores for both sections were based on use of language, comprehension, conversation abilities and writing capacity. Most importantly was interest of the content and clarity of decscription in both written form and speech.

This year, to encourage more competitors into the contest, and to show recognition for the hard efforts of all 10 contestants, there were 10 prizes awarded with 10 cash awards as well.

7 Competitor Awards with trophy and 50,000kyats were given to the 7 consolation winners. They were;

U Myat Lin Soe (HEW), U Htun Htun Win (HEW), U Soe Wun Na (QHSE), Daw Mon Mon Soe (HEW), U Tin Naing Tun (HR), U Win Kyaw Thu (Supply) and U Aung Ko Zin (Mining)

3rd Place was awarded to Daw Lae Yin Win of HR Admin & Training Department with a beautiful trophy and 150,000-kyat prize money.

2nd Place was awarded to U Htet Nyi Nyi Swe of QHSE Department with trophy and 200,000-kyats prize money.

First Place was decided by the judges to be awarded to U Zin Ko Ko of the Mining Division, with a handsome award of 250,000-kyats and the bragging rights of the Mining Division to display their man's 1st Place trophy on their awards shelf.

This competition was inspired by senior management and supported by the Managing Director to encourage the learning of the English language within the organisation. All key documents, the ISO systems, the Integrated Management System (IMS) and all international deigns and reporting structures are all written in the English language, making this language a critical element to management of the mine. By holding such competitions, a reward and recognition program is established to acknowledge those who excel in their English language learning efforts who are in positions below a Senior Supervisory Level. This program will assist MYTCL in building future leaders within the company, and ensuring that an ongoing international system is sustainable.

Congratulations to all 10 finalists, and to those who participated but did not make the top 10 this year, the MD of MYTCL hopes to see you next year on the final stage of the contest!
