Among Myanmar's 12 seasonal festivals throughout the year, Thingyan Water Festival represents the largest and is believed to bring peace and prosperity to everyone. Myanmar people annually celebrate traditional Thingyan water festival to welcome in the Myanmar New Year. Thingyan is a public holiday in Myanmar, usually celebrated over four days beginning on 13 April, and the dates of the Thingyan festival are calculated according to the traditional Myanmar calendar.
MYTCL held the Water Festival for its community at the Mine Town Play Ground on 13th April, 2019. It is called A-Kyo Nei, where all departments from MYTCL invite guests and visitors providing Myanmar traditional food in abundance over the next four days.
The opening ceremony was attended the Managing Director of MYTCL, Mr. Wang Zhentang, Chinese Staff, the heads of departments from MYTCL and MEHL's site representative U Toe Lwin. The opening ceremony was followed by a performance with the Myanmar traditional dancer groups in colorful dresses with Thingyan music. In line with celebrating the New Year, a Karaoke stage for those who like to sing was set up, and women danced to classical and contemporary music while wearing decorative flower skirts. Many children used water pistols to drench their friends, relatives, and anyone else in range - truly only monks and the elderly are safe from the water-fights.
