The Myanmar New Year Festival, Thingyan, usually falls around mid-April in the midst of the hottest season of the year.
The dates of the Thingyan Festival are calculated according to the Burmese Calendar. Today (13th April, 2017) called a-kyo nei (the first day of the festival), MYTCL held a community festival at Mine Town Hall (Nawaratt) where various departments will host over the next 5 days, th eprovision of Myanmar traditional foods to any and all visitors. In line with celebrating the New Year, a Karaoke stage for those who like to sing is set up, and of course the mandatory pavilions are stationed for water throwing or dousing one another as is traditional during this festival. All throughout Mine Town one can see families gathered outside of their homes with food made ready for neighbours and passing villagers to enjoy. This Myanmar tradition is strong with MYTCL and will go through the week culminating on the 16th of April.
Also on the 14th an honourary ceremony took place led by the Managing Director and Chairman of MYTCL, Mr. Zhang Yupeng, where donations were personally offered to all of the elders of Mine Town.
