Thingyan is the Myanmar New Year Water festival which lasts four or five days and usually falls around mid-April.
The dates of the Thingyan festival are calculated according to the traditional Myanmar calendar, and this festival is often referred to as the Water Festival. MYTCL employees and their families gather together at this time to welcome in the Myanmar New Year. MYTCL celebrated with a community festival at the Mine Town Playgrounds, commencing on the 13th of April, 2018 with a ceremony called A-Kyo Nei, where all departments from MYTCL invite guests and visitors providing Myanmar traditional food in abundance over the next four days. In line with celebrating the New Year, a Karaoke stage for those who like to sing was set up, and woman danced to classical and contemporary music while wearing decorative flower skirts. Many Children used water pistols to drench their friends, relatives, and anyone else in range - truly only monks and the elderly are safe from the water-fights.
On behalf of the Managing Director and Chairman of MYTCL, Mr. Zhang Yupeng, Chief Engineer Mr .Sheng Ruguo also took place at a special annual ceremony for paying respects to the aged. All of the elders of Mine Town on last day of Thingyan (16.4.2018) gathered in the grounds to be acknowledged in Myanmar traditional style. These gentle and kind ancient people gently spoke words of thanks and blessings to the crowds paying them homage.
